From Malta to Simla, the ritual of afternoon tea became one of the enduring social traditions of the British Empire. This experience explores the fascinating threads that connect these two distant corners of the empire, where British influence shaped architecture, language, customs and, of course, the way people ate and socialised.
Over tea, we travel through shared histories, discovering how a quintessentially British ritual was embraced, adapted and made their own in both Malta and India—revealing the unexpected connections between two cultures separated by thousands of miles, yet united by a common colonial past.

A specially curated Raj-inspired High Tea, bringing together British afternoon tea traditions and the flavours of India
A selection of savoury sandwiches, with a fusion of flavours that evolved under the Raj.
A selection of hot and cold Indian tea time delicacies.
Followed by Indian-inspired sweets.
To drink, there will be a little tipple, or the more traditional Masala chai and a selection of black and herbal teas.
Stories and conversation exploring how afternoon tea travelled from Britain to India and became part of the social and culinary culture of the Raj

Duration: Approximately 3–3½ hours
Group size: An intimate experience with a limited number of guests.
What to expect: This is a relaxed, seated High Tea experience combining food, storytelling and conversation. You’ll be served a succession of savoury and sweet dishes inspired by the food of India during the Raj, alongside a selection of teas and traditional drinks.
The food: The High Tea includes sandwiches, cold Indian delicacies, hot savoury treats and sweets. Some dishes have a choice of options, allowing us to offer a varied selection across the table.
Drinks: Your experience includes a welcome cocktail, masala chai, Falooda and a selection of black and herbal teas.
Dietary requirements: Please let us know about any dietary requirements or food allergies when booking. We will do our best to accommodate dietary needs where possible, but some dishes may not be suitable for all requirements.
What to wear: Comfortable clothing is recommended. There is no particular dress code.
Skill level: Come simply with an appetite and a curiosity to discover the stories behind the food.
