“Htamin saa pea be lar?”
Have you eaten?
Standard Burmese greeting for guests arriving at your house

Whilst the Mediterranean is KulStoria’s starting point, our stories do not end at its shores.

Drawing on co-founder Yasmeen’s Gujarati and Burmese heritage, her childhood in Malaysia, and the decades in which she made Malta her home, KulStoria Asia is a foray eastwards, exploring the food cultures and personal histories that have shaped her own story.

From the kitchens of old Rangoon with the complex flavours of Southeast Asia to the more nuanced notes of Moghul cuisine, we explore recipes handed down through generations, the stories behind them, and the journeys that carried ingredients, traditions, and people across continents.

We also uncover unexpected bridges with Malta, tracing connections created through trade, migration, and a shared colonial past, and revealing how seemingly distant cultures have intersected in surprising ways.

Throughout the year, our pop-up events offer samplings of this wider KulStoria journey: tastes of Asia told through food, memory, identity, and storytelling.
